The Fuchsia cultivars in the Purcellian Triphylla series are pentaploid or hexaploid specimens. In their genome they contain genes inherited from F. triphylla and F. fulgens (derived from 'Göttingen' and 'Our Ted') and occasionally from F. splendens.

The names of the four Fuchsias in this series are all based on a part of the music piece Come, ye sons of art, created by the British composer Henry Purcell. This music piece is an ode, written in 1694 in honour of the birthday of Queen Mary II of England.

Strike The Viol

The triphylla hybrid cultivar Fuchsia ‘Strike The Viol’ (De Cooker, 2012) stems from crossing ('Göttingen' x 'Our Ted') x ('Göttingen' x 'Our Ted'). It's an upright growing fuchsia with single, orange/pink flowers which darken upon ageing. It has attractive dark green bronze foliage, which highly adds to its display. It can be grown as a standard or a bush, both as a young or older plant. It needs no special care. The older plant and cuttings grow well throughout the winter at 5oC.

Touch The Lute

Fuchsia ‘Touch The Lute’ (De Cooker, 2014) is a Triphylla cultivar originating from the crossing ‘Strike The Viol’ x (‘Göttingen’ x ’Our Ted’). Flowers are produced in many racemes. Its dark green foliage with a bronze underside of the leafs adds to the attractiveness of this cultivar. It is best grown as a bush in a somewhat sheltered position, in any case in filtered light at high temperatures during summer. Overwintering is without any problems.

‘Touch The Lute’ is moderately fertile both as the male and the female. Its name is -as the third in a row, following ‘Strike The Viol’ and ‘Wake The Harp’- based on a part of the British composer Henry Purcell’s music piece Come, ye sons of art, an ode, written in 1694 in honor of Queen Mary II of England’s birthday.

Wake The Harp

Its tube and sepals have a bright red colour, its corolla is orange. The flowers are produced in many big racemes. The dark green foliage is intermediate to the parents. It can be grown as a bush or a standard. Overwintering is without any problems. It is best grown in a somewhat sheltered position, in any case in filtered light at high temperatures during summer. The cultivar produces no pollen, but it is moderately fertile as the female.

Sound The Trumpet

Fuchsia Sound The Trumpet’ (De Cooker, 2018) is a triphylla cultivar originating from the crossing ‘Touch The Lute’ x ('Playboy' x unknown).

It's a vigorous Fuchsia cultivar with an excellent root system. Because its growth is rather stiff upright, it has to be carefully shaped for growing it as an older plant. It can be grown both as a bush or a standard.

Overwintering is without any problems. .
